Our Investment Process
-
Stage 1 - Pitch Deck Submission
We use your pitch deck to make an initial assessment of whether your business fits our investment thesis.
We hope to the learn the following from your pitch deck:
Problem, Solution, USP of Solution, Market Size (we prefer bottom up approaches) and Market Growth, Market Problem Awareness, Why now and timing, Competition, Go-to-Market Strategy, Business Model, Technology Development Roadmap, Defensibility (IP Overview and Strategy), Team Overview, Finances (burn rate, use of proceeds), Hiring Plan, Fundraise Requirements and Cap Table.
-
Stage 2 - Screening Review
We are looking to confirm the following things as part of our screening review:
Your business could have a large and quantifiable impact on society.
Science is critical to the success of your business.
Your business is raising an appropriate amount of capital, at a valuation that fits our investment criteria
During Stage 2 we will setup an intro call to listen to your pitch and give us an opportunity to ask some follow-up questions.
-
Stage 3 - Investment Memo
We construct our investment memo that will be shared with our investor members.
The investment memo will be pre-populated with information provided in Stage 2.
We aim to ensure that all the information you provide throughout our investment process is captured to avoid repetition and so our knowledge of your business increases as you progress through our pipeline.
-
Stage 4 - Pitch Event
Our investor community will provide valuable input on your business using our investment memo. The best and most exciting opportunities are invited to our pitch events.
Pitch events are held virtually and are organised on a rolling basis. This allows us to accept applications for investment on a timescale to suit your funding requirements. Investors pledge an investment amount subject to due diligence post pitch event.
-
Stage 5 - Due Diligence
Building on our investment memo we arrange a series of calls with a deal team comprised of investors and the SAS management team. This process aims to clearly highlight the potential of an investment in your business and clearly highlight the main risks.
We want to build conviction in your business and we hope this process is constructive for both your business and SAS.
-
Stage 6 - Close Investment
On completion of Stage 5 we will confirm investment amounts with our investors and then promptly proceed to complete any transaction related documentation.
We will sit down with you post investment to define a series of milestones that you expect to achieve as part of your funding round. We will use these milestones to assess the progress your business makes should you require follow-on funding at a future time point.
